Blessings, Answered Prayer, and Flight School?

This is my middle son, Aaron. He is a great guy but he has been a little busy for a while. ...seems like years. Busy being a teenager, then a young man, finding his own way. Sometimes it seemed like his way was far away. But God is so cool; He answers prayer. Something that I have prayed for is that he and his dad would find a connection. My husband dreams that one of his children will want to fly- like he does. Answered prayer and dreams come true. Aaron spent the day at the airport today- And he thinks he wants to learn to fly. What a great day! Happy Mother's Day!

Biology Teachers Know Everything

Well, the H1N1 flu is all the news in the Dallas area. Schools are closed all over, my 15 year old daughter's district being one of them. The day the announcement was made, she was already at home...sick. No, she does not have the swine flu, but on that particular day, we were not sure. Friday, May 1 6:00 a.m Rebecca, "Mom, my throat hurts and I have a fever." Self, "I guess you need to stay home. You might have to see the doctor." Rebecca, "No. I don't need to see the doctor. I know I do not have swine flu." Self, "How do you know? You have the symptoms." Rebecca, "I do not have all the symptoms. Besides, if I did, I can stay home and get over it just fine. I won't need to see the doctor." Self, "I think we should have you tested. It can be very serious and you could die." Rebecca, "Mrs. Schimmel says that the ones who are dying are in Mexico. And the reason they are dying is because their water is...

Random Ramblings

Hmmm. I cannot decide what I feel like blogging about. Can things get any worse than that? :) (totally joking, of course) I want to blog. I feel like putting my thoughts on paper...I mean screen, but ... (sigh) there are too many of them. And they don't come together well at all this evening. The ideas are bouncing all over, like one of those rubber balls...what are they called "super balls" or something? I start, and erase. I type and delete. It is Sunday night and the weekend was just not long enough! My mom was here, and our friend, Dee. The goal of the weekend was to visit the King Tut Exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art. Accomplished. My mom, Dee, myself, my son, Aaron, and daughter, Rebecca, all learned as much as we could about King Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs. Amazing how interesting things from 3000 years ago can be. 3000 years! That is a very, very long time. However- I might have left with more questions than answers. Like, w...

Fabulous - Dave Matthews Band

Saw this man in concert, AGAIN, last night. And his outstandingly talented band...of course. The first time I ever saw them perform live, I was with my son, Adam. He was the person who introduced me to this band and I have never been the same (musically) since. It poured down rain that first night. It poured down rain again last night. And I didn't care. It was entertainment that thrills whether rain or shine. This band is good. This man is ultra talented. I am so glad that I went... even in the pouring down rain.

Things on my desk include a plant, an in-box, a digital picture frame, a computer with three monitors, speakers, lots of papers and books, an adding machine, sticky notes and a paperweight that says, "Serenity". (this is my WORK desk) 6. Music makes me wanna sing. 7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to my mom and friend, Dee, coming for the weekend, tomorrow my plans include step study class in the morning, King Tut Exhibit with my family in the afternoon and Dave Matthews concert with my fr...

ABC's of the Word - L

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, L et him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, L et him serve; if it is teaching; L et him teach; if it is encouraging, L et him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, L et him give generously; if it is leadership, L et him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, L et him do it cheerfully. Romans 12:6-8 These verses have been special to me over the years, but especially so the last few weeks. I went on a retreat last month where I spent an entire weekend looking at my spiritual gifts and how God might like for me to use what He has gifted me with. In the past, I wasn't so pleased with my own gifts. My gifts are ones that require guts. Prophesy. Teaching. Discernment. And I felt bad because I had little mercy. What I have found is that just because mercy is not my spiritual gift, it does not mean that I do not feel merciful toward hurting people or ...
